Tom Tancredo was born Dec. 20, 1945.
Education
Tancredo graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with in a B.A. in political science in 1968.
Pre-Congressional career
Before being elected to the House of Representatives, Tancredo taught at Drake Junior High School in Arvada, Colo. He served in the Colorado legislature. He also served in the Department of Education under presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. He was also president of the Independence Institute from 1993-1998.
Congressional career
Tancredo currently serves as the representative for the 6th District of Colorado in the House of Representatives. He was elected to Congress in 1998. He is also a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the House Committee on Natural Resources.
Declared candidacy
Tancredo has announced his candidacy but has not filed formally with the Federal Election Commission.
Family life
Tancredo married his wife Jackie in 1977. They have two children and five grandchildren.
