Iowa City bar ordinance fails
November 6, 2007
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – Voters struck down a proposed ordinance Tuesday that would have prohibited anyone under 21 years old from entering Iowa City bars after 10 p.m.
Unofficial vote totals show the measure was defeated 8,895 to 6,606 – a margin of 57 percent opposed to 43 percent in favor.
The updated totals are a turnaround from initial tallies that showed the measure passed by about 200 votes. The results were then taken down and officials said there had been a calculation error.
