Cyclones drop heartbreaker to Wildcats

Despite a massive turnaround after intermission, the ISU volleyball team was unable to overcome an early 2-0 deficit in against No. 15 Kansas State in Manhattan on Saturday night.
The Cyclones (13-9, 7-5 Big 12) fought until the final ball dropped, but were sent home with a tough four-game loss (30-24, 30-26, 20-30, 35-33) to the Wildcats.
The teams played at total of six game points in a marathon game four, and the Wildcats were finally able to convert on their third chance, stopping the Cyclone comeback bid short. The Cyclones failed to convert on three game point chances.
The serving game has been a rough spot for the Cyclones all season, and the same held true against the Wildcats on Saturday night. Iowa State amassed twelve service errors on the match, including five in crucial situations throughout game four.
Iowa State redshirt freshman Victoria Henson had a career night against the Wildcats, totaling four blocks and 15 kills on a .444 hitting percentage. Erin Boeve led the Cyclones with 17 kills and 12 blocks for her fifth double-double, with Lauren Cummings and Jen Malcom adding 14 and 10 kills, respectively.
Freshman Ashley Mass tallied 15 digs for her 16th consecutive double-digit dig match, while Kaylee Manns also chipped in 15 digs along with her 47 set assists for her ninth double-double of the season.
