Keno Davis follows father’s footsteps

DES MOINES &#8212 He can tinker with the defense, he can add new wrinkles to the offense, he can chart his own course.

But there’s one thing Keno Davis can’t escape as he starts his first season as Drake’s basketball coach – and that’s fine with him.

“Growing up, I don’t know anything different than being known as Tom Davis’ son,” the younger Davis said Tuesday.

Keno Davis stepped into the job last March when his father retired after 32 years as coach.

Don’t expect major changes. Keno Davis, an assistant at Drake since his father arrived in 2003, will employ the basic fast-break, full-court pressure style his father favored.
