Joe Biden was born Nov. 20, 1942 in Scranton, Penn.
Education
Sen. Biden graduated from the University of Delaware in 1965 with a B.A. in history and political science. He then graduated from Syracuse Law School in 1968.
Pre-Senate career
Biden served on the New Castle County Council from 1970 to 1972. Biden practiced law in Delaware from 1968 to 1972.
Senate career
Biden was first elected as a Delaware senator in 1972 and is currently serving his sixth term in the Senate. He has served on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for three decades. He also served as chairman on the Senate Committee on the Judiciary. In 1994, Biden wrote the Violence Against Women’s Act, which created a hotline and shelters for women in abusive relationships. He has been an adjunct professor at the Widener University School of Law since 1991.
He teaches a class in constitutional law.

Family Life
Married to Jill Tracy Biden, a school teacher, and has three children and five grandchildren. He grew up with four siblings.
