Cyclones experience airline trouble

The Cyclones’ match against the Toledo Rockets was more than two weeks ago, but the Cyclones could have used a way to get airborne last weekend.

Miami Air, which charters each of the Cyclones’ flights for away games, experienced computer problems with the team plane Saturday. Coaches, players and officials were forced to wait nearly four hours until another plane arrived in Lubbock, Texas.

“Miami Air is not on my good list right now,” Blythe said.

Since the Cyclones were forced to wait in Texas, the team didn’t arrive back in Ames until about 8 a.m. the next day, forcing coach Gene Chizik to cancel most of the team’s activities planned for the day.

“It was already light out. People were getting up and going to work, and we were just getting back,” Blythe said.

The computer malfunctions weren’t the only time the Cyclones have been left stranded, as plane problems caused a delay for the team’s arrival to Ames after their Sept. 22 game in Toledo. Team buses didn’t arrive back at the Jacobson Building until 4 a.m. the next day.

Chizik and the rest of his staff won’t have to worry about any plane delays for a while, as the Cyclones host their next two games at Jack Trice Stadium.

“Let’s just hope the bus doesn’t break down,” Chizik said.

As for Blythe, he said he won’t be investing in the travel company any time soon.

“I’m not taking any stock in Miami Air right now,” Blythe said.
