Italy, Russia setting of 2 theater shows
October 11, 2007
ISU Theatre will present two plays this weekend at Fisher Theater.
“We Won’t Pay! We Won’t Pay!” first opened last weekend but still has two more performances before it closes.
The contemporary play is set in Italy, where the economy has collapsed because of inflation and unemployment.
The play is a comedy farce written in 1974 by Nobel Prize winner Dario Fo.
“We Won’t Pay!” is directed by Sarah Zwick-Tapley, lecturer of music.
The other play, “Three Sisters,” opens Friday for the first of four performances.
“Three Sisters” is a tragic comedy written by Russian playwright Anton Chekhov.
The plot centers on the Prozorov sisters and their brother who live in rural Russia. However, they have childhood memories of living in the city of Moscow and wish to return since their father dies.
“It’s more about the characters and how they respond to life,” said Brad Dell, lecturer of music and director of “Three Sisters,” in a press release.
Both plays will also be at Fisher Theater next weekend.
