One of the great things about living in a college town is the easy accessibility to good music and local bands. Campustown features some great bars and cafes to listen to live music of all kinds, no matter what your taste.

The Daily looked at some of the most popular places that provide live music in Campustown. So pick your favorite, listen and enjoy.

Bali Satay

Bali is known for its amazing live acts and display of local music talent. Artists from around the country come to play at this Indo-Chinese restaurant.

  • Radio Moscow and Acoiris on Saturday

Legends Bar and Grill

119 Stanton Ave. #117 (in Legacy Tower, seventh floor)

In addition to its burgers, wings and beer, Legends is beginning to offer live music. On Fridays at 10 p.m., local bands are playing at this high-rise restaurant. Sit and listen to the music while overlooking the ISU campus.

Cy’s Roost

121 Welch Ave. #314

This popular bar on Welch features live music on Friday nights. In addition to artists performing covers, Cy’s Roost is an excellent place to listen to local bands that are trying to get their music known to others.

Caf‚ Beaudelaire

Caf‚ Beaudelaire, the Brazilian caf‚ in Ames, offers a great selection of food as well as great music. On the weekends, a house DJ plays music for patrons who wish to salsa, merengue or swing dance.

Local artists are also able to perform Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. for open-mic night.

Lost and Found Lounge

121 Welch Ave.

This lounge is above Cy’s Roost, but is very different than its downstairs counterpart. Lost and Found features a more intimate atmosphere, with comfortable seating and lighting. Like Legends, this is another great place to sit and enjoy a band.

Maintenance Shop

Memorial Union Ground Floor

A campus hot spot, the M-Shop hosts regional bands and touring acts throughout the year. Creating an atmosphere with darker lighting and intimate seating, shows here always draw a crowd. Tickets are available through the Memorial Union Ticket Office, and prices increase the day of the show.

On Thursday, the Helio Sequence, an indie-electronic band, will be performing at 8 p.m. Saturday at 9 p.m. brings The Blend, a hip-hop, rock, alternative group.
