Cyclone Hockey grabs second exhibition win
September 20, 2007
The Cyclone Hockey team came out flying in their second exhibition game of the season.
In a hard fought game at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena, the Cyclones defended their home ice by beating the Minnesota Owls, a Junior A team, 4-2.
The Cyclones got out to a fast start by scoring their first goal just 19 seconds into the opening period on a long shot by freshmen forward, Josh Rahme into the upper left-hand corner of the net for his first career goal. They took a 2-0 lead, along with the momentum into the locker room at the end of the first period.
The Owls, however, refused to quit. They came out firing in the second period and dominated the early play coming away with a goal off a rebound with 16:25 remaining in the period.
That was all the Owls could manage however as the Cyclones defense buckled down in the third period. The Cyclones defense managed to skate off three power plays, including 24 seconds with two men down, in the third period before freshmen forward Cort Bullock broke loose for the first goal of his career on a break away with 6:30 left in the game.
