Time to Gloat: Week 4
As the only member of the Iowa State Daily to pick Iowa State last weekend, I feel like I should dedicate the inaugural segment of Time to Gloat to the 104 players of the ISU football team. You have earned the confidence of the Cyclone Nation. Have fun road-trippin’.
Space is short today, so I don’t even get to gloat. But each week’s top picker from here on out will get two to three paragraphs to explain why they are so much better than everyone else.
To the rest of the guys, I’m not mad at you for picking Iowa – I’m just disappointed. Pat, at least you said “prove me wrong” to the Cyclones last week. Kyle and Chris, as Cubs fans, I can understand how you doubted your team in the big game.
– Luke
Iowa State at Toledo
Luke: Iowa State – Allen Bell two picks, Cyclones force five turnovers, J.J. Bass runs wild.
Pat: Toledo – Superstition only . I picked against the Cyclones last week and they won, let’s make it two-for-two!
Kyle: Iowa State – Cyclones are 5-1 in last 10 years in the week after they beat Iowa.
Chris: Iowa State – Luke, what a convenient time to start “Time to Gloat”.
Iowa at No. 9 Wisconsin
Luke: Wisconsin – Gave up 31 points to Citadel, but Christensen struggles with no WRs to throw to in Camp Randall.
Pat: Wisconsin – Camp Randall + Iowa = disappointing conference start for the Hawkeyes.
Kyle: Wisconsin – Herky stands no chance against Bucky.
Chris: Wisconsin – Iowa played like Drew Tate was still the quarterback last weekend.
No. 12 South Carolina at No. 2 LSU
Luke: LSU – Would love to pick Spurrier’s team, but QB situation is questionable. Blowout in Baton Rouge on CBS Saturday afternoon.
Pat: LSU – Tigers have my vote for No. 1.
Kyle: LSU – I think it will be close, but nobody outside of Gainesville will win at LSU this year.
Chris: LSU – Kyle, way to jump on the Florida bandwagon a week after I pick them as National Champions.
No. 22 Georgia at No. 16 Alabama
Luke: Alabama – Saban’s got the tide rollin’, plus home-field advantage.
Pat: Georgia – Saban fans come crashing back to earth.
Kyle: Alabama – Sweet home Alabama – roll Tide roll. Big win over Arkansas last week.
Chris: Alabama – Sweet home Alabama? Seriously, how cliche, Kyle.
Texas Tech at Oklahoma State [Big 12 Opener]
Luke: Texas Tech – Oklahoma State gave up 41 points to Troy last week, Red Raiders have averaged 51 ppg.
Pat: Texas Tech – Ah, can’t wait to see Tech’s offense this season.
Kyle: Texas Tech – Tech likes to win shoot-outs, and this will be no exception.
Chris: Texas Tech – I hate picking last. All I can do is make fun of people. Sorry Kyle.
North Carolina at No. 23 South Florida
Luke: South Florida – They got Devin Hester’s brother, Jessie, and the original coach Mac.
Pat: South Florida – Miss ya, Mac. Keep it up down there.
Kyle: South Florida – Good to see Mac do well. South Florida will keep it going.
Chris: South Florida – If South Florida loses, it would be in the words of Mac, “happy horse crap.”
No. 21 Kentucky at Arkansas
Luke: Arkansas – Wildcats dominated after Louisville upset; McFadden and Jones carry Razorbacks back into the top-25.
Pat: Arkansas – UK with a nice win last week, but Louisville was highly overrated entering this season.
Kyle: Kentucky – Arkansas will be ready to go, but Kentucky is coming off of a thrilling upset and will be ready to prove themselves.
Chris: Arkansas – All three Kentucky wins came at home . the road will be unforgiving to that No. 21 ranking.
Purdue at Minnesota
Luke: Purdue – Boilermakers shred helpless Gopher D.
Pat: Purdue – Boilermakers returning to the Drew Brees “glory days.”
Kyle: Purdue – This one shouldn’t be close.
Chris: Minnesota – OK, Minnesota is not good. But then again, who has Purdue played?
Michigan State at Notre Dame
Luke: Michigan State – How quickly the mighty have fallen.
Pat: Michigan State – Forget Hail Marys. Notre Dame needs an exorcism.
Kyle: Michigan State – I’m a big fan of the Irish, but, wow, they are bad this year.
Chris: Notre Dame – I heard Charlie Weis and Bill Belichick got together to review some tape this week.
Northern Iowa at Drake
Luke: Northern Iowa – Best team in the state? No, but Farley puts together competitive teams every year.
Pat: Drake – I’d love to see a 1-AA team upset by a lower football division.
Kyle: Northern Iowa – Should be the largest crowd in Drake football history to see two solid teams, but UNI is on another level.
Chris: Northern Iowa – If Drake beats UNI, does that mean it’s a Bulldog State?
