Music Spotlight: Rachael Price

Rachael Price is a 21-year-old jazz singer, born in Australia and raised in Nashville, Tenn. Her upcoming tour kicks off Saturday at Stephens Auditorium in Ames and features stops in the Midwest and the West Coast.

Musical influences: Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan

Also Stevie Wonder and the Beatles, because she listened to them as a child.

Big break: She has performed at the Society of Singers Gala to honor Elton John, the Newport Jazz Festival, as well as a performance for the Shubert Organization to honor Robert Goulet. After the end of each of these performances, Price received a standing ovation, giving her immediate recognition among critics.

Current plans: Price attends the New England Conservatory in Massachusetts when she’s not touring.

Who’s the most interesting person Rachael Price has met while performing? “I can’t pick just one. Musicians seem to be interesting people all around.”
