Cyclones defeat UNI, tie with Iowa
September 9, 2007
The Cyclones followed their 4-1 victory over the University of Northern Iowa with a 0-0 draw against the Iowa Hawkeyes.
After generating four goals against the Panthers, the Cyclone offense couldn’t find the back of the net against the Hawks on 10 shots.
“We created a lot of dangerous opportunities, but we just didn’t put it away. We had a solid defensive effort, and it would’ve been nice to come away with a win, but we just couldn’t score,” coach Rebecca Hornbacher said in a press release.
The Hawkeyes outshot Iowa State, 12-10, but the Cyclones got another great showing from goalkeeper Ann Gleason, who earned the shutout with four saves.
The scoreless draw gives the Cyclones a 5-1 lead in the Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk series.
The Cyclones, now 2-0-1 on the season, return to action Friday when they take on Minnesota and Montana at the Gopher Classic, hosted by the University of Minnesota.
