– Choreographed dances for Dub H
– Took classes at Broadway Dance Center in New York
– Attended weekly workshop with the BLADE Academy in New York
– Hip-hop instructor at Gretta Misean’s Studio of Dance in Ankeny
Influences:
– Friends, classic dancers like Michael Jackson, Usher, Chris Brown, Ginuwine
Aspirations:
– Currently moving to Scottsdale, Ariz., where he would like to spend a year in a dance studio or company
– Eventually move to Los Angeles to pursue dancing objectives in a larger market
Vision when choreographing:
– Tell a story through movement, whether romantic or funny in nature
– Captivate the audience or move them in some way
Kenan Peters
Age: 22
Major: Agricultural education
Member of Dub H: Fall 2004-present
Background:
– Choreographed workshops for Dub H
– Choreographed workshop for Orchesis I
– Held two hip-hop workshops in Des Moines
– Choreographed for Big Hair Ball in Des Moines in 2005 and 2007
– Hip-hop instructor for Behn’s Centre of Dance in Boone
– Auditioned for first season of “So You Think You Can Dance?”
Influences:
– Jackie Wilson, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Mr. Wiggles and modern-day West Coast choreographers
Aspirations:
– Move to New York after graduation and eventually move to the West Coast to be a part of a dance company or teach in a studio
Nick Murphy
Age: 21
Major: Kinesiology
Member of Dub H: Fall 2004-present, current president
Background:
– Attended hip-hop workshops at Broadway Dance Center in New York
– Performed in dance competitions in Minneapolis and Indianapolis
– Hip-hop instructor at Ashley Blake Dance Studio in Des Moines
Influences:
– Michael Jackson, choreography from mainstream movies (i.e. “You Got Served”), Usher, Justin Timberlake
Aspirations:
– Be a part of a big dance organization, a back-up dancer and eventually choreograph
Steven Flagg
Member of Dub H: Fall 2004-present
Background:
– Choreographed six dances for Dub H
– Worked with Alicia Keys for her performance at the 2002 Iowa State Fair
– Worked with Wade Robson of “The Wade Robson Project”
– Joined Monsters of Hip-Hop Tour for upcoming 2007-08 year
Influences:
– Dave Scott, Michael Jackson, Usher, Wade Robson, Janet Jackson
Aspirations:
– Get an agent and start “choreographing for the stars”
Vision when choreographing:
– Do something, original even with the music
– Involve all body parts
– Incorporate different styles
– Make the dance visually pleasing
Jon Paul
Age: 21
Major: Journalism and mass communication
Member of Dub H: Fall 2006-present
Background:
– Has taken jazz, tap and other forms of dance lessons since fourth grade
– Choreographed for Dub H in spring 2007
– Will possibly choreograph for an all-star cheerleading team in Minnesota next summer
