Suspect in stabbing arrested

A suspect has been arrested in connection with a death that occurred early Saturday morning in Ames.

Catricia Shelburn, also known as Catricia Brown, 33, was arrested at approximately 7:27 a.m. Saturday and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Larry Brown, 39, of Ames, according to a press release from the Ames Police Department.

Ames Police received a call at 1:15 a.m. reporting an assault, which occurred at 225 S. Washington Ave.

According to the press release, when officers arrived, they found Brown with a stab wound in his chest. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Mary Greeley Medical Center.

Shelburn was listed as a person of interest and was located at the 200 block of S. Kellogg Ave.

Cmdr. Jim Robinson of the Ames Police Department said Shelburn was taken into custody on an arrest warrant charging her with murder in the first degree, a Class A felony.

She is currently being held on a $900,000 cash bond.

Brown and Shelburn had children together, but were not married, Robinson said. Shelburn was last known to reside in the Ames area, but also has ties to Chicago.

The Ames Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are continuing the investigation of the incident.
