Students try hand at stand-up comedy
April 15, 2007
If you enjoy a good chuckle, giggle or all-out outbursts of fall-on-the-floor laughter, then you shouldn’t miss Veishea Says I’m Funny.
The show is held at 10 p.m. Tuesday in the Maintenance Shop of the Memorial Union.
“It’s a completely student-run event, so it’s a great chance to see the talent of students here on campus,” said Kelsi Mehmen, Veishea Entertainment Committee co-chairwoman and senior in agriculture business.
The event, won’t cost attendees a thing – except possible sore cheeks and teary eyes from nonstop laughter.
Alyssa Staley, Veishea student involvement coordinator co-chairwoman and freshman in political science, said a bonus to students is that this event is absolutely free.
Organizers expect the event to attract a large audience.
“Last year there was a line and people actually had to be turned away, and this year shouldn’t be any different,” Staley said.
Staley said the committee is expecting to have 15 contestants, with the winners receiving cash and prizes.
Deciding what exactly is funny will be judges Jeff Johnson, director of Alumni Services, Thomas Greenbowe, professor of chemistry, and Amy Slagell, associate professor of English.
