Get the right gear for Veishea
April 15, 2007
What better way to celebrate one of our university’s oldest traditions than by showing your ISU pride during Veishea? Get out your cardinal and gold and have a good time.
1. Flip-flops
With the weather finally warming up, it is time to put your snow boots away and get out your sandals. Nothing could look better on your feet this Veishea than a new pair of red or gold flip-flops to match your ISU outfit. Flip-flops can be found at stores such as Target, 320 S. Duff Ave., Wal-Mart, 3015 Grand Ave., or Payless Shoes, 2801 Grand Ave., and many more for prices ranging anywhere from $5 to $50. Don’t forget the ISU-themed sandals at many stores around Campustown.
2. Veishea button
This is one accessory that is more than just an extra touch to your wardrobe – it will also be your ticket to free food. Veishea buttons, which can be purchased for $5 the week before and the week of Veishea, can get you free lunch every day on campus, as well as deals and discounts from surrounding community businesses. Pin your button on, eat a free meal and show your Veishea pride.
3. Gym shorts
Planning on participating in any of the Veishea tournaments? There is only one way to compete: with your ISU gym shorts on. This year at Veishea there are events ranging from a kickball tournament to a mountain bike race to sand volleyball to slow-pitch softball. Pick up a pair of ISU gym shorts at any local retailer to make sure you are comfortable as well as supportive of your school.
4. Hats
Now that the sun is shining, there is only one way to protect yourself while staying in style. All over Ames, you can find ISU hats and baseball caps to top off your outfit for Veishea this year.
5. T-shirts
The staple of every ISU outfit for this year’s Veishea? A brand-new T-shirt, of course. Everything from baseball tees to ringers to polos to tank tops can help you show off your Cyclone pride throughout the week. There are even many retailers around Ames that will allow you to make your own customized tee so you can stand out from the crowd this year. On a budget? Look for the free Veishea tees being handed out throughout the week. What better way is there to pay tribute to our university than with “Iowa State” written across your chest?
