Men’s lacrosse prepares for rival Iowa State Cyclones vs. Iowa Hawkeyes

When: 3 p.m. Saturday

Where: Towers Fields

With the end of the season near, the Iowa State Men’s Lacrosse Club faces intrastate rival Iowa this weekend in non-conference play.

The rivalry between Iowa (1-6) and Iowa State (2-5) is well understood and will carry the same intensity in lacrosse 3 p.m. Saturday at Towers Fields.

“Obviously it’s going to be huge for us to win this weekend,” said co-captain Brian Berg. “It’s Iowa, a big rival, we have to win for State.”

After coming off two losses in Wisconsin last weekend to St. Olaf and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, the Cyclones know what they need to do to improve and prepare for the Hawkeyes this Saturday.

“We’ve been really working on our transitions from defense to offense,

and eliminating the fast breaks down on defense,” said defensive pole Michael Pokorney. “That’s what killed us last weekend.”

With increased practice and improvement from losses last weekend, the Cyclones have high hopes for a win against Iowa this weekend. The Cyclones have not lost to the Hawkeyes during the spring season in the

past seven years.

“We feel extremely confident against Iowa this weekend,” said co-captain Jacob Oakland. “We’re just looking forward to it and hoping to get the win.”

This weekend’s game will be the last regular season game for the Cyclones. Next weekend, Iowa State competes in Upper Midwest Lacrosse League Division A postseason tournament.
