MULTIMEDIA: Cyclones defeat Wildcats
January 26, 2007
Kansas State got a big taste of what it’s like down under.
Freshman Alison Lacey, a native of Australia, propelled the Cyclones to a 73-68 win over the Kansas State Wildcats, behind a career-high 25-point performance in front of 10,877 fans in Hilton Coliseum on Saturday.
Fittingly, it was Lacey who drained the final two free throws with four seconds remaining to seal the game. Lacey was 4-of-7 from the arc in the game, 5-of-8 from the stripe and 4-of-4 on shots inside the arc.
Kansas State almost won the game, thanks to a duo of players who caught fire from three-point land. Junior Kimberly Dietz (25 points) and Senior Claire Coggins (21 points) combined to go 11-of-19 from the arc and totaled 46 of the Wildcats’ 68 points.
Cyclone star point guard Lyndsey Medders had another quiet night, scoring only four points, but still found a way to contribute, dishing out 10 assists. Toccara Ross also added to the win with 16 points and eight rebounds.
With the win, the Cyclones move to 16-5 and even their Big 12 record to 4-4, while the Wildcats drop to 15-5, 3-4 in the Big 12. Since dropping three straight conference games, Iowa State has won three of its last four, beating then-No. 22 Texas, Kansas and Kansas State, with the one loss coming against No. 6 Oklahoma.
The Cyclones return to the road Wednesday to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers (16-4, 4-2 Big 12) at 7 p.m. in Lincoln, Neb.
