ISU football adds defensive line coach
December 7, 2006
According to the Montgomery Advertiser, Mike Pelton, an assistant at Troy the past six years, is leaving to join Gene Chizik’s staff at Iowa State. Pelton is expected to be the Cyclone defensive line coach and will be reunited with new ISU defensive coordinator Wayne Bolt, who was the defensive coordinator at Troy from 1990-2002. Pelton had a hand in the growth of two NFL stars – Osi Umenyiora of the New York Giants and DeMarcus Ware of the Dallas Cowboys. Umenyiora made the Pro Bowl in 2005 after leading the NFC with 14.5 sacks. Ware, a first-round pick in 2005, made a switch to linebacker in the NFL where he totaled 8.0 sacks in his first season.
