Bryan’s Football Focus
November 30, 2006
Each week Bryan Hooyman, the Daily’s football fanatic, previews local football games not featuring the Cyclones. With the end of most local teams’ seasons, he takes a crack at some top games this weekend. Hooyman holds a 25-14 record on the year.
No. 2 USC Trojans (10-1) at UCLA Bruins (6-5) – This Pac 10 showdown favors the Trojans highly. The Bruins defense has allowed 2,305 passing yards and 1,024 rushing yards on the year. This fares well for Trojans running back, Chancy Washington, who has earned 820 all-purpose yards. Trojans quarterback John David Booty has thrown for 2,682 yards with 25 touchdowns and only eight interceptions, while the Bruins defense has only managed 11 interceptions. Expect the Trojans to come away with this victory.
Bryan’s pick – TROJANS
No. 19 Nebraska Cornhuskers (9-3) at No. 8 Oklahoma Sooners (10-2) – In this civil war between the North and the South for supremacy in the Big 12, the game will come down to the Cornhuskers’ rushing corps, which has gained more than 2,000 yards – scoring 26 touchdowns. It is led by running back Brandon Jackson, who has rushed for 881 yards and scored seven touchdowns. The Sooners should be run all over in this game as the Cornhuskers ride Jackson to victory.
Bryan’s pick – CORNHUSKERS
No. 13 Rutgers Scarlet Knights (10-1) at No. 15 West Virginia Mountaineers (9-2) – This season, I have yet to jump on the Rutgers bandwagon. The Rutgers offense, however, has accumulated 3,555 yards, and the Mountaineers have allowed nearly 2,559 yards. Since Rutgers has a rather potent offense, and the Mountaineers defense is somewhat lackadaisical, expect the Scarlet Knights to pull out a win. So yes, I am saying it now – I am finally on the Rutgers bandwagon.
Bryan’s pick – SCARLET KNIGHTS
