Texas co-defensive coordinator Gene Chizik is expected to be introduced as Iowa State’s new head football coach at a press conference Monday night.

After being met at Ames Municipal Airport this morning by ISU Athletic Director Jamie Pollard, Chizik is scheduled to speak at tonight’s press conference, as well as Pollard and ISU President Dr. Gregory Geoffroy.

Tonight’s event is open to the public and begins at 6 p.m. at Hilton Coliseum. Doors open at 5:15 and the ISU marching band is scheduled to perform before the conference begins.

Chizik, who is also the assistant head coach and linebackers coach at Texas, is widely regarded as one of the best assistant coaches in college football. A 2004 recipient of the Broyles Award, which honors the nation’s top assistant coach, Chizik is in his second year at Texas after coaching defenses at Auburn, Central Florida, Stephen F. Austin, Middle Tennesee State, and Clemson. In the past three years, two of his teams – Texas (2005) and Auburn (2004) – had undefeated seasons.

A 1985 graduate of Florida, Chizik has 20 years of college coaching experience.
