Bryan’s Football Picks

Each week, Bryan Hooyman, the Daily’s football fanatic, previews local football games not featuring the Cyclones. Hooyman holds a 18-9 record this season and went 1-2 last week.

Northern Illinois Huskies (5-3) at Iowa Hawkeyes (5-3) – I think the Hawkeyes are emotionally drained after losing to the No. 2 Michigan Wolverines. The Hawkeye defense won’t have the drive to stop Huskies tailback Garrett Wolfe, who has 1,413 yards on the ground and nearly 200 yards receiving (193). Wolfe has also accounted for 13 of the Huskies’ 28 touchdowns. Hawkeye quarterback Drew Tate will miss Saturday’s game with a thumb injury. His replacement, Jason Manson, was barely able to beat a bad Syracuse team earlier this season. Watch for the Huskies to take this game despite being on the road.

Bryan’s Pick – Huskies

Drake Bulldogs (6-2) at Dayton Flyers (3-4) – Both the Bulldogs and the Flyers are participating members of the Pioneer Football League, but the Flyers have gone 0-3 in conference play this season while Drake has gone 3-1. Although Drake lost its second game of the season last week, look for the Bulldogs to make its way back to its winning ways. I see the Bulldogs going into Ohio and unleashing the dog pound on the Flyers as it finds its way to victory lane once again.

Bryan’s Pick – Bulldogs

Western Illinois Leathernecks (3-5) at UNI Panthers (5-2) – This game comes down to location and streaks. The Leathernecks are going on the road – where they are 1-2 – to the UNI Dome, where the Panthers are 2-1. This alone makes me think the Panthers are coming away from this one with a victory, but Northern Iowa is also currently riding a three-game winning streak, while the Leathernecks are on a four-game slide.
