NFL – The good, the bad and the ugly
October 23, 2006
THE GOOD
A bomb-Tampa Bay kicker Matt Bryant drilled a 62-yard field goal as time expired to beat the Philadelphia Eagles 23-21. The 62-yarder is the second-longest field goal in NFL history behind 63-yard field goals by Jason Elam and Tom Dempsey.
Whoop- Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook rushed for 101 yards and caught seven passes for 113 yards. He had 214 total yards and broke five tackle attempts by Tampa Bay defenders on his way for a touchdown which gave the Eagles a short-lived 21-20 lead.
THE BAD
Big Ben banged up- Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was knocked out of the game after sustaining a blow to the head. Does anyone else think he’s trying to find ways to injure himself?
Chester Taylor?- The Seattle Seahawks allowed Minnesota Vikings running back Chester Taylor to run for 169 yards, including a 95-yard scamper. His previous long – 52 yards.
THE UGLY
This isn’t baseball- San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman, last year’s defensive rookie of the year, received a four-game suspension for testing positive for steroid use. Don’t be shocked – just look at NFL players. Baseball isn’t the only sport dealing with steroid issues.
How low can you go- The Arizona Cardinals lost to the Oakland Raiders, despite the fact the Raiders turned the ball over five times. I don’t know what’s worse, blowing a 20-point lead Monday night or losing to the previously 0-5 Raiders.
