The women’s golf team finished eighth Tuesday in the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational in Lawrence, Kan. Their team score of 944 put the Cyclones right in the middle of the 16-team field.

Iowa State was led by junior Karly Pinder and senior Christie Athas, who shot final scores of 231 and 232, respectively. Pinder’s score was good for a ninth-place finish overall and a career best. Athas finished right behind her in 10th place, making it her first top-10 finish of the young season.

Cyclone freshman Pennapa Pulsawath ended with a final score of 234, including a team-best third round score of 76, good for 14th place.

The event was won by the University of Kansas, which also hosted the meet.

The Jayhawks had an overall team score of 917 and had two players finish in the top five and three in the top 10.

The Cyclones will hit the road again on Oct. 30 to play in the College of Charleston Invite at Kiawah Island, S.C.
