Bryan’s football picks
October 11, 2006
Each week Bryan Hooyman previews local college football games not featuring the Cyclones. Hooyman holds a 15-6 record for the season and went 2-1 last week.
No. 19 Iowa (5-1) at Indiana (3-3) – The Hawkeyes travel to Indiana to take on fellow Big Ten rivals the Indiana Hoosiers. The Hoosiers barely squeaked out a two-point 34-32 victory over Illinois. In contrast, the Hawkeyes destroyed Purdue 47-17 last week. Seeing as I am a loyal Cyclone fan, I would love to say that I can see the Hoosiers pulling off an unbelievable upset of the Hawkeyes. However, the Hoosiers have a weak defense that has accumulated only 10 sacks and six turnovers thus far this season. Hawkeyes quarterback Drew Tate should pass all over the Hoosiers defense in Iowa City as the Hawkeyes get their sixth win of the season.
Bryan’s pick – HAWKEYES
Northern Iowa (3-2) at Indiana State (0-5) – One would think I’d have the heart to cheer for a fellow school with the initials ISU (Indiana State University). However, seeing how the Indiana State Sycamores have given up 235 points thus far this season, I don’t think I can. The Panthers, who lost to Iowa State 28-27 in a tough battle during their fourth week, have gotten back on track by blowing out Missouri State last week, 38-7. Look for the Panthers’ blood to still be boiling over the tough loss they suffered in Ames as they roll past Indiana State and keep the Sycamores winless.
Bryan’s pick – PANTHERS
Drake (5-1) at Butler (2-4) – After suffering a crushing loss in week one to the UNI Panthers (48-7), the Bulldogs have rebounded to score more than 30 points per game while allowing less than 10. Butler, unlike Drake, has not had any “decisive victories.” In the Bulldogs’ two wins, they have barely inched by to claim victory. This is why, in the battle at the dog pound – both teams are the Bulldogs – I can see Drake showing Butler a thing or two about who the “top dog” really is.
Bryan’s pick – DRAKE BULLDOGS
