Football team honors former QB

Iowa State will pay tribute to former quarterback Cris Love this season with a patch featuring Love’s No. 16 on the back of the team’s helmets.

Love, who lettered for the Cyclones in 2003 and 2004, died June 14 in his home state of Texas after a short battle with cancer. He was 24.

“We’re going to honor his memory and his legacy here at Iowa State,” coach Dan McCarney said.

Love played 17 games in his career, earning the start in Iowa State’s 2003 game against Texas. He threw for 667 yards and five touchdowns while with the Cyclones.
