Cyclone outfit ideas
August 30, 2006
>> The human Cy
A tar and feathering would be a little too extreme, so take it down a notch. Use pantyhose as arm covers and leggings, glue layered red feathers and you’ll have your own reusable cardinal suit. Beak and headdress optional.
>> Cyclone freedom fighter
Be your own William Wallace with war paint, bag pipes and a revealing red-and-gold kilt – underwear optional. To spice things up a bit, scream “they can’t take our freedom!” if the opposing team starts to gain an edge.
>> Cardinal-and-gold light district
Nothing gets people motivated to cheer like a little skin. Donning a red-and-gold Speedo and full body paint, attach some nipple tassels and put on a little red lipstick to get everyone’s juices flowing. Hopefully, your indecency won’t get you denied to the game.
>> The manimal
Getting inspiration from KISS, apply your animalistic facepaint and have someone help you with red-and-gold leopard spots, whiskers and other Discovery Channel-inspired details. It also wouldn’t hurt to construct a tail out of fur and wire.
>> Cyclone islander god
Sports can be a religious experience, and your dedication to detail will shine through with your heavenly presence. Construct a red-and-gold grass skirt, full-size Tiki mask and paint Hulk hands with Cyclone colors. Your outfit will have fans jumping in a spiritual fit.
>> “Office Space” flair freak
Following the flair guidelines of “Office Space,” stick Cyclone memorabilia, foam fingers and whatever else you can think of to be a collage of ISU memories.
>> Evil Cy-clown
Strike fear into the hearts of the opposing team with something out of Stephen King’s “It.” Put on a red-and-gold clown wig, angry clown makeup and the obligatory giant shoes. It’ll be like Bozo, only incensed with Cyclone pride.
>> The emo fan
Turn people’s expectations on their heads by showing off your emo-fan side. Dressed in red, gold and black, put on as much studded clothing-items you have and yell things like “I heart you guys so much,” or “You are so rock.” Before long it’ll have you saying “Dude, why are all these people so excited?”
Cardinal and gold glitter cape –
Made with red and yellow shiny fabric from Wal-Mart, the cape is held together by liquid stitch.
ISU brass knuckles –
Constructed from foam purchased at Hobby Lobby, the words were carefully carved in, along with finger holes, and then covered in paint.
Cyclone “Superfans” shirt –
Both shirts were custom made and feature screenprinted names on the back.
Face paint –
This can be applied with a finger or paintbrush, depending on how intricate the design is. Latex gloves help when applying with fingers – that way, you don’t have to worry about having to wash your hands after every color.
Cy-shoes –
These shoes started off as plain white shoes purchased at Wal-Mart. They were spray painted with multiple layers of red and gold paint. The smaller details were added with fabric paint or model paint.
ISU champion belt –
Constructed with folded posterboard covered in fabric, the additional add-on posterboard was then spray-painted gold. Puffy gold paint and generic fashion beads surround the edges. The beaded “Iowa” is able to spin on the belt.
