Harris finds home at safety

Displaced running back Jason Harris has finally found a home – on the defensive side of the football.

Harris switched from running back to the defensive backfield earlier in fall practice, working out at both linebacker and safety. The 210-pound Harris has settled in at safety, competing for playing time just weeks after the position switch.

“He’s making strides,” said coach Dan McCarney. “Now it’s up to him to earn playing time.”

McCarney said the transition will come in time for Harris.

“[The transition] isn’t going to happen fast. There are a lot of things going on back there,” McCarney said. “It’s one of the toughest positions to play in any level of football. You can’t make a mistake because you can give up six points easily. He’s willing and has a real good attitude about it.”

Harris will also see time on the Cyclone special teams unit.
