ISU basketball teams to play a double header
May 17, 2006
For the second straight year, the ISU men’s and women’s basketball teams have agreed to play in a nationally televised doubleheader at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
The men’s team is scheduled to play Bradley University in the Mediacom Cyclones Capital Classic on Dec. 16. Bradley University finished the 2005-06 season in the top-25.
The Braves also advanced to the Sweet 16 in the 2006 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament before being eliminated by Memphis.
Now-Cyclone coach Greg McDermott was 1-4 against the former Missouri Valley Conference foes in the past two years with Northern Iowa.
The women’s team is scheduled to play St. Louis University in the winter classic. St. Louis came in second-to-last in the Atlantic 10 division with a record of 7-20.
Last year, the men’s team lost in a close game to Ohio State University, 70-67.
The women’s team faired better than the men’s team, pulling out a victory over University of Northern Iowa, 61-54, in the doubleheader.
Both games will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
