ISU women’s golfers qualify to compete in amateur tournament

Two ISU golfers qualified to compete against some of the best women’s amateur golfers in a women’s amateur tournament in Colorado.

Kendra Hanson and Christi Athas qualified to play at least 36 holes of stroke play in the 2006 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links, with the chance to advance and be one of 64 players advancing to compete in match play in the later rounds of the tournament.

Hanson, a sophomore, qualified after shooting a 77 at Briarwood Golf Course in Ankeny.

Athas, a senior, received an automatic invitation after advancing to match play in the 2005 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links in Kansas City.

The two golfers will hit the links to participate in the amateur tournament June 20 to 25 at the Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo, Colo.
