Hard-rock quintet Parallex releases new studio album at weekend performances

Ames hard-rock quintet Parallex has been putting in hard work recording and preparing to release its second studio album, “Two Years Notice,” which will be released this weekend at back-to-back shows in Ames and Des Moines.

“We recorded the album in three different studios over the course of two years,” said Josh Lizer, guitarist for the band.

He said the new album makes apparent the stylistic change and musical maturity the band has endured during its run at Iowa State. The new album incorporates songs of a harder-edged rock nature than previous efforts, sounding similar to the likes of Fuel, Incubus and Chevelle.

Since forming in January 2002, the band has performed for several Iowa radio stations and even played as an opening act for the Epic-signed Future Leaders of the World.

While booking the shows in January, the band members had no idea they would conflict with Veishea activities, saying they aren’t sure how Veishea will hinder their crowd attendance.

“I do know that there are three bands playing and they’re all great. It’s also close to Welch [Avenue], and if riots break out you’ll be on the front lines,” Lizer said.
