It was perfect, or at least near perfect.

Amie Ford tossed a no-hitter against Vermont, striking out 13 batters en route to the Cyclones 7-0 victory. Ashley Killeen went 3-for-4 with a run batted in and Katie Reichling went 2-for-3 with her second home run of the season and three runs batted in.

The last no-hitter for Iowa State came in 1998.

The offense also found its spark in the Charleston Southern Tournament in Charleston, S.C.

The weekend began with a 15-1 win over Central Connecticut State, including an 11-run sixth inning started by Cyclone patience drawing three walks. Killeen, Cary Akins, Reichling and Jennifer Bigbee all had run-producing hits. Pitcher Alyssa Ransom allowed one run and four hits to get the win.

In Ford’s next start Saturday morning, she posted another double-digit strikeout total with 10 against Campbell. She allowed three hits and one run in the 5-1 Cyclone win.

Ransom limited Charleston Southern to four hits and struck out six as the Cyclones went on to win 11-1. The Cyclones were powered by Killeen’s big day – 2-for-3 with two home runs and six runs batted in.

All but one Cyclone who had an at bat in the game recorded a hit to help fuel the attack. The Cyclones also stole four bases.

The win earned the Cyclones a first-round bye for single-elimination rounds starting Sunday.

Sunday’s play started against the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and the Cyclones quickly scored four runs on three hits in the first inning. Ford kept the lead intact as she struck out 11 for her third-straight game with more than 10 strikeouts.

Ford also allowed four hits, extending to five games the Cyclone pitchers’ tournament streak of not allowing more than four hits in a game.

Killeen went 2-for-3 in the game to raise her hitting streak to five games. Reichling also had a single in the game to extend her hitting streak to six games.
