Candidates campaign before vote concludes

Candidates for Government of the Student Body elections are making their last push to get votes Monday, which is the last day to vote.

Henry Alliger, senior in animal science, is running alongside Brooks Nelson, sophomore in public service and administration in agriculture, for GSB president and vice president, respectively.

Emily Jensen, junior in political science, and her running mate Sara Faber, junior in public service and administration in agriculture, are vying for the positions, as well.

Both slates spent many hours this weekend talking to students and plastering not only campus, but also Campustown, with campaign messages and slogans.

“It takes a lot of work, but it’s worth it. We’re getting students to vote for us,” Jensen said.

Both Alliger and Jensen spent time in Campustown talking to students at the bars and visiting with them in the streets.

“I think there have been a lot of support,” Alliger said. “We’ve been out on Welch Avenue and Friday we’ve spent a lot of time on campus in front of the library, Curtiss Hall, Kildee Hall.”

Jensen said that her campaign has been working hard to meet with students the past few days.

“Anywhere students are, we are trying to be there, as well,” Jensen said. “We’ve been slapping stickers on people and talking to everybody.”

Mansoor Khadir, GSB election commissioner and senior in economics, said the results will be announced later in the week.

“We will know the results by Monday night, but then we wait until Thursday to announce them,” Khadir said.

The election results will be announced at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Maintenance Shop of the Memorial Union.
