LETTER: Alliger and Nelson is best slate for GSB
February 21, 2006
On March 3, I will vote for Henry Alliger and Brooks Nelson for president and vice president of the Government of the Student Body.
The Alliger/Nelson ticket is plain and simple – they’re all about action! I could talk about a whole host of things that Alliger and Nelson are excited to start working on, but instead address what has been one of my main concerns for the past four years.
Increasing tuition has put an unnecessary burden on students today. More and more students have to find additional sources of income to pay for tuition, and because students have to work more outside of class, less time is being allotted for studies and universal entertainment. Tuition has created stressful situations for students.
In the last five years, tuition has increased more than 80 percent and will continue to rise unless a voice comes from the student body. Alliger and Nelson are that voice! Students need this strong voice to aid decision makers at the state and federal level to make the right choice when it comes to tuition issues and with Alliger and Nelson, you can rest assured they will take action.
One of their plans is to unite Iowa State with the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Iowa to form a collaborative team working with our university administrators to advance the collective interests of all public university students regarding the tuition problem. Alliger and Nelson will put students first and take action to keep tuition predictable and affordable.
I have known Alliger for some time now and have come to appreciate his enthusiasm for keeping this campus great. He has prided himself on staying involved with student interest groups and I believe he gets a decent pulse of the students from those interactions. Alliger has always provided me with sound advice and knowledge when I have come to him with a problem, and I know he wants to do the same to all ISU students.
Alliger and Nelson are all about action! So get out and vote for them March 3 through 6 at Vote.iastate.edu.
