Cyclone golf finishes 14th in weekend tournament
February 28, 2006
The ISU women’s golf team wasn’t able to make a move in the standings Sunday, finishing 14th in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
It was the same place the team was in for most of the weekend. The Cyclones total score of 965 in three rounds left them just two spots ahead of last place.
The University of Florida Gators won the tournament, taking the overall lead on day two and never looking back.
Standout sophomore Kendra Hanson struggled most of the weekend, finishing with a score of 250 that landed her in 81st place overall. Freshman Tracy Stanford was the Cyclones low scorer, ending up in 59th place with a mark of 239. She shot a career-best round of 76 on Saturday.
The Cyclones climbed one spot over the course of the weekend, from 15th place on the opening day to the eventual 14th-place finish. This leaves the team at roughly the same place it was in at the end of the fall season, when it finished last in the Big 12. The team has four more tournaments to fine tune its skills this spring before it heads to Lincoln, Neb., for the Big 12 Championships in April.
The Cyclones next meet is March 10 in College Station, Texas, in the Texas A&M Tournament.
