ISU Police arrested a student in connection with a deadly hit and run collision on campus.

Shanda Rae Munn, junior in pre-journalism and mass communication, was arrested at approximately 6:40 a.m. on February 11, according to an ISU Police news release.

Munn was transported to the Story County Justice Center and bail has been set at $75,000. She has been charged with homicide by vehicle, a Class B Felony, and failing to stop at an accident resulting in the death of another person, an aggravated misdemeanor.

“We’ve reached a point in the investigation where we concluded all interviews and searches and we had the necessary evidence to file the charges,” said ISU Police Capt. Gene Deisinger. “We have no doubt about Ms. Munn’s involvement in the incident.”

Deisinger said ISU Police interviewed more than 80 witnesses during the investigation prior to Munn’s arrest. Witnesses said Munn was under the influence of alcohol the night of the incident.

On December 15, 2005, ISU Police identified Munn as the driver of the car that involved in the incident that resulted in the death of Kelly Jean Laughery, sophomore in pre-business.

During the early hours of December 3, 2005, Laughery died resulting from injuries sustained as a result of a hit and run collision on Mortensen Road between Hayward Avenue and Welch Road. She was transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center, where she died as a result of the injuries, according to ISU Police.
