LETTER: Hayek would create dialogue with peers
February 27, 2006
My name is Mitch Hayek and I am a candidate for the agriculture seat in the senate of the Government of the Student Body. I would appreciate your support in the upcoming election.
If elected to serve as your senator for the next year:
I plan on starting a “Kitchen Cabinet” of agriculture students to advise senators on how students would like government to work for them.
I plan on introducing legislation to permanently create a director of public relations, rather than risking losing the position from cabinet to cabinet.
I plan to send out monthly constituent newsletters, describing what bills came up for debate and my own voting record.
I will work with media outlets to submit guest opinion editorials, regular interviews and other opportunities to contact my constituents and the university community as a whole.
I will work with the executive branch, other senators and the ISU Ambassadors to combat rising tuition costs and provide an effective voice in the Ames and university communities.
I plan to maintain an individual Web site showing my own voting record, bills I have sponsored and floor remarks on current issues.
The bottom line of my campaign is to contact you more as citizens of Iowa State and to raise the profile of GSB within this community and the level of public debate over relevant issues within our community and work together with you to make government work and, above all, make government work for you.
I would appreciate your vote and, if elected, I will represent you as best as I can. So go to Vote.iastate.edu from March 3 to 6 and vote!
I would be honored to not only receive your vote, but to represent you for the next year as your senator.
Mitchell Hayek
