While the ISU football team held its signing day press conference Wednesday, two ISU football players were arrested in connection with an assault Sunday morning at Club Element, 2401 Chamberlain St., said Police Cmdr. Randy Kessel.
Warrants were served for Greg H. Coleman, backup running back, for simple assault, and Durrell Donshel Williams, a freshman defensive back, for assault causing a serious injury, which is a class D felony, Kessel said.
The incident occurred around the same time ISU defensive back Jason Berryman received a citation for being a minor on the premises at Element.
Berryman was not listed in connection with the assault.
Coleman’s warrant said he was involved in an altercation with former ISU student Nathan Johnson, in which he pushed Johnson, Kessel said.
Williams’s warrant said he, without justification, assaulted Johnson, causing a serious injury. It said Williams punched Johnson in the face unprovoked, breaking a bone. Johnson was knocked out, Kessel said.
Both were arrested and taken to Story County Jail. Coleman is being held on $500 dollars cash bond, and Williams is being held on $12,000 cash bond.
Coleman played in 10 games for the Cyclones in 2005, and started for the injured Stevie Hicks. He averaged almost 42 yards per game.
ISU media relations and ISU coach Dan McCarney were unavailable for comment at the time of publication.
