The Subways
“Young for Eternity” (Sire/Reprise)
Sounds like: Oasis, The Vines
REVIEW: 3 / 5
In Short: The Subways put a modern spin on a sound that’s been popular for years. Like a peanut butter sandwich: Not extraordinary, but very filling.
It’s amazing how history never ceases to repeat itself. The Subways are finding success with the same edgy Brit-pop sound that has led countless other bands down the same path, but I must admit – I can’t help but like it.
I haven’t liked a Brit-pop band this much since Oasis came out with “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?” The Subways sound like they are rocking out in some desolate garage, and you happened to be walking by and stumbled upon them by accident.
Melding male and female vocals over a steady flow of tight, but not complicated, rhythms and riffs, The Subways will make you feel like putting on tight clothes and dancing like a buffoon.
Standout tracks on the album include “I Want to Hear What You Have Got to Say” and “Mary,” both of which have recently appeared on television soundtracks.
Having had a song appear on both “One Tree Hill” and “The O.C.,” The Subways certainly shouldn’t have any problems winning the hearts of America’s youth.
The band consists of 21-year-old front-man Bill Cooper, his 19-year-old fiancee and his 19-year-old brother.
Hopefully the band will manage to steer clear from drama and continue cranking out albums as good as “Young For Eternity.”
