AP: Judge rejects Pierce’s reduced term plea

DES MOINES – A judge has rejected Pierre Pierce’s bid to arrange to have his two-year prison term reduced, according to court records.

The former Iowa basketball player pleaded guilty as part of a plea agreement in August to charges of third-degree burglary, assault with intent to commit sexual assault without injury, false imprisonment and fourth-degree criminal mischief for an incident last winter at his former girlfriend’s home in West Des Moines.

In his ruling Tuesday in Dallas County District Court, Judge Gregory Hulse said, “The reasons for imposing the defendant’s sentences have not changed.”

During the October sentencing, Hulse suspended a five-year prison term on the burglary charge, but imposed the maximum jail time on the other three charges.

The sentences were ordered to be served concurrently, and Pierce will be required to register on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry.

Iowa prison officials have said Pierce is expected to serve less than a year.

Coach Steve Alford dismissed Pierce from the Iowa basketball team last February.
