Houston Bowl tickets on sale Friday, game to sell out quickly
December 7, 2005
The Cyclones are heading to Houston for the Ev1.net Houston Bowl. So, how do you get there?
Tickets were made available to season ticket holders Monday for $57. Students can order tickets Friday beginning at 8 a.m., but must do it in person at the ISU athletic ticket office.
Tickets are $20 per student, and one student can purchase two tickets. After buying the tickets, the students pick up their tickets at Reliant Stadium on Dec. 31, the day of the game.
“It’s about this team,” said ISU coach Dan McCarney.
“It’s supporting this football team, which is really an exciting team to watch, follow and support, and the possibility of going to one of the great cities in America to see a great bowl game.”
There’s a reason, McCarney said, the Cyclones were so attractive to those in charge of the Houston Bowl. The reasoning goes hand-in-hand with what he hopes will be one of the best turnouts in Cyclone history.
“We’ll bring a lot of fans, unlike some schools in America,” McCarney said. “We’ll bring a classy program, we’ll bring a bunch of kids and the coaching staff and the coaches’ families that are excited to be there, and we’ll bring a bunch of fans.”
ISU athletics director Jamie Pollard said he wasn’t yet sure how many fans would attend the game, despite preliminary numbers showing high interest in the Cyclones’ bowl destination. Between 3,400 and 3,600 tickets had been sold before ISU fans even knew where the team was heading.
“I don’t know if I’d put a flat number on it, because this is my first time through it at Iowa State,” Pollard said. “We have a great alumni base in Houston and Dallas, and the fact that it’s a Dec. 31 game allows our fans, if they want, to come but stay home for Christmas.”
No matter what happens, McCarney said he has faith the fans will come out in large numbers to support the Cyclones.
Numerous activities are planned for Cyclone fans to take part in throughout bowl week, beginning Dec. 26 and going through Dec. 31, when the Cyclones kick off against the Texas Christian Horned Frogs at 1:30 p.m.
“We’re hoping our fans will really crank it up,” McCarney said. “I know they will. I know the interest is really high.”
