McDonald’s Restaurant, 3621 Lincoln Way, was robbed late Tuesday night, shortly after the restaurant closed at 11 p.m.

Ames Police Cmdr. Randy Kessel said it appeared an armed man entered McDonald’s while employees were cleaning up for the night and robbed the restaurant at gunpoint. The gunman left the area on foot with an undetermined amount of money.

The suspect was described as a black man with his hair in braids, early 20s, approximately 5-foot-8-inches and was last seen wearing a blue jacket with a gray hood.

Kessel said there were no injuries reported and no surveillance equipment inside the restaurant. He added that employees reported seeing an actual gun, but there is a chance it could have been a toy or look-alike gun.

“We’ve had all-night restaurants robbed before, usually all-night convenience stores…,” he said. “But sometimes fast food stores are targets.”

At press time, the McDonald’s business office was unavailable for comment, but the restaurant will remain open.

Kessel said the robbery remains under investigation and if anyone has information regarding the crime, police urge them to call the Ames Police Department at (515) 239-5130.
