Wrestlers roll in first dual meet
November 8, 2005
The seventh-ranked ISU wrestling team got its first taste of dual-meet action Sunday, beating Upper Iowa and Wisconsin La-Crosse in Fayette, Wisc., 31-9 and 31-9.
The Cyclones (2-0) held a 66-18 takedown advantage against their first two opponents, losing only one decision and scoring two falls. Winning both of their matches were Ben Hanisch, Jesse Sundell, Nate Gallick, Trent Paulson, Travis Paulson and Kurt Backes.
“It was a good team performance,” said coach Bobby Douglas.
“We found out a lot about this team, and we still have a lot of work to do.”
Upper Iowa (Div. II) and Wisconsin La-Crosse (Div. III) proved competitive, but only won two decisions.
ISU 174-pounder Grant Turner lost by injury default against Upper Iowa’s C.J. MacNaught and the Cyclones were forced to forfeit the same weight in their second dual.
