LETTER: Vote for Doll to secure the future of Ames even if you’re graduating
November 30, 2005
Sure, we’re all going to be out of here in a while; some of us sooner than others. That fact makes it easy for us to ignore local politics, and pretty much anything else that goes on in Ames. But think about what this means for students. If we keep saying that nothing that goes on in Ames concerns us since we’ll be gone in a few years anyway, the cycle of apathy continues and makes it easy for our rights and privileges to be gradually stripped away. After four years everyone will have forgotten that we had any in the first place.
This year, we have a unique chance to make a difference on a whole host of issues. The way we can do that is to elect Ryan Doll to Ames City Council. As a student he has a clearer understanding of our lives than anyone currently on the Council, which in itself will be great benefit to the student cause. Beyond that, he has made communication a key part of his campaign, something that is currently lacking between Council members and students outside of GSB. He’s also concerned about making sure housing is affordable for both longtime residents and students alike.
Even if you’re graduating this year, please take five minutes on December 6th to vote for Ryan Doll. If you don’t live in the 3rd Ward yourself, find someone who does and make them vote. Do it for your kid brother. Do it for the cute sophomore in your biology class. The future students of Iowa State will thank you.
