NCAA 2006: Iowa State 21, Baylor 17
October 6, 2005
Editors Note: Each week Pat Brown and Brett McIntyre will play the ISU football team’s game on NCAA 2006 for the Xbox. Brown will play the season as the Cyclones while McIntyre will be their opponents. All statistics used in these stories are according to the video games, not the actual Cyclone football games.
Any win is a good win for the ISU virtual football team, as they rebounded from a loss at Nebraska to climb back into the win column against Baylor.
Losses against Iowa and Nebraska had the Cyclones at 2-2 on the season, but beating the Bears brought them back to .500 in Big 12 play.
While it was the Cyclones who came away with the 21-17 victory, Baylor was the team in the driver’s seat for much of the game.
The Bears scored on their first possession of the game, getting a three-yard scoring pass from quarterback Shawn Bell to Jordan Adams.
Baylor added another score in the second quarter, pushing their lead to 14-0 at the half.
The second half was Iowa State’s time to get back into the game. Running back Stevie Hicks took a handoff 83 yards for a touchdown, putting the Cyclones on the scoreboard for the first time.
A Baylor field goal brought their lead back to 10, but that was all the offense they could muster.
The Cyclones drew within three points on a scoring strike from Bret Meyer to Jon Davis, and then took the lead for good with 1:03 left to play.
Meyer hit Todd Blythe down the sideline for a 42-yard touchdown, completing the impressive ISU comeback.
Baylor had one more opportunity to score, but Bell’s pass was intercepted by LaMarcus Hicks and the Cyclones ran out the clock to earn the win.
