The ISU volleyball team successfully kicked its conference curse with a four-game stomping of Baylor on Wednesday night.

The Cyclones brought their new attitude to Waco and left with their second conference win of the season, already topping their mark of one win last year. Iowa State bumped its record to 8-5 overall and are 2-1 in the Big 12, while Baylor dropped to 9-4 and 1-1.

Iowa State found itself struggling in the first game, going neck-and-neck with Baylor in every point.

The Bears jumped on the board first, leading by as much as five points before an ISU timeout turned things around for the Cyclones. Baylor kept a steady lead by a margin of two points until Iowa State charged back to tie the game at 23. After another tie at 29, Iowa State surged ahead and nabbed the 31-29 win.

The teams were locked in a battle in game two until five consecutive service points by Laura Cady put the Cyclones ahead by three. Successful serving runs by Nicole Lorenzen and Amy Vos let Iowa State take a comfortable lead and the 30-19 win.

Iowa State lost its footing in game three, falling behind by as many as 14 points and were never able to regain its balance as Baylor topped the Cyclones 30-19.

Cady again provided a spark in game four with her serving, jumping out to a 7-1 lead. Baylor rallied to come within one point, but Iowa State kept its focus and kept the Bears in check. The Cyclones earned the 30-23 win and the match, their first Big 12 road win since Sept. 17, 2004.

The Cyclones return to the court Saturday when they travel to face top-ranked Nebraska in Lincoln. The Cyclones will try to win back-to-back games against ranked teams, having beat then-No. 18 Texas on Sept. 17.
