Tricks at Jack Trice

Hundreds of motorcycle stunt fans filled the South lot of Jack Trice Stadium parking lot to see last Saturday’s show. Stunt Bash 2005 was sponsored by the ISU Motorcycle Club and the professional riding group A*Team.

The spectators and the riders were of all ages, with some as young as elementary school.

Mikade Meyer, coordinator for the A*Team, said he was pleased with how the event turned out.

A total of three other professional riding teams were invited for the event, including STUNTUSA, StuntDNA and The NuBreed. It took Meyer and his team around two months to organize the whole event.

“Getting the teams together wasn’t the difficult part; the most difficult thing was getting all the permits,” Meyer said.

The event had a great turnout, he said.

“All in all, about 800 came and went today,” said A*Team member Dustin Vajgrt.

The public was also treated to a raffle sponsored by Lasting Impressions tattoo studio for a $100 tattoo gift certificate, T-shirts and other prizes.

The riders performed stunts from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., although spectators began to drift away by 4 p.m. Still, anytime someone from the public would ask to see something, the riders were eager to please.

A variety of tricks were performed, including stand up wheelies and no-hand stand ups. Many riders rode customized bikes with unique paint jobs and different seats from a variety of materials. One particularly bike had its whole body covered in blue fur.

“We’d heard about the event but didn’t really know where it was,” said David Kaiser, sophomore in computer engineering. “We just kind of passed by and saw it and decided to stop by and see how it was going.”

“I’ve been here all day,” said Taz Clayburne, member of STUNTUSA. She said she came to show support for her team members.

“I dig these guys,” she said.

Clayburne usually rides, too, but did not for Saturday’s event.

“Boys only today,” she laughed.

Clayburne said it’s not often groups like these can actually get together and participate with each other, usually because of location problems.

It can be dangerous to do these kind of things just anywhere, and many times business owners won’t allow them to be in parking lots because of insurance problems. A*Team got the permits for the stadium parking lot.

“It definitely turned out great,” Taz said, watching her teammates.

Vajgrt said his group is planning on turning this into a yearly event, to give a great show to the public and to provide an outlet for the riders.

Local businesses supported the groups by sponsoring the event. Lasting Impressions Tattoo Studio, Pella Motorworks and Coca-Cola, provided the refreshments for the event.
