An Ames man who received multiple stab wounds after taking part in a failed robbery attempt last April was given two years probation last Monday for his role in the incident.

Jeffrey Lundgren, 22, 3219 Ellis St., was given a suspended sentence of one year in prison for assault causing bodily injury and five years for conspiracy to commit a nonforcible felony.

Timothy Meals, Story County assistant attorney, who represented the state in the case, said the two sentences would have been served concurrently had they not been suspended.

The other perpetrator in the attempted robbery, Shayne Wiesenhofer, 20, 129 Wilmoth Ave., is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. at the Story County Justice Center.

He faces one count of assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor, and one count of conspiracy to commit a felony, a class D felony.

Wiesenhofer’s attorney, Story County Public Defender Annette Boehlje, and Meals could not speculate whether Wiesenhofer will receive the same sentence.

The two men pled guilty to both of their charges following the April 11 incident, which left them bleeding from stab wounds they received after assaulting Des Moines residents Nick Loffredo and Luke LeClere.

Prior to the stabbings, Wiesenhofer and Lundgren attempted to steal Loffredo’s backpack.

On April 9th, Ames police responded to a call at Kum & Go, 203 Welch Ave., after Lundgren entered the store with blood on his shirt and told employees he had been stabbed.

Police were also called to ISU Parking Lot 60 where they found Wiesenhofer lying between two cars.

On April 15th, the two men were arrested and charged with assaulting LeClere who, police said, stabbed them in self-defense.
