Stinson chosen for Wooden Award
August 21, 2005
Curtis Stinson, junior guard on the ISU men’s basketball team, has been named as one of the top 50 candidates on the 2005-06 Wooden Award preseason All-American team.
The 50 student athletes are chosen based on last season’s performance and team records. The award recognizes the early front-runners for one of college basketball’s most coveted trophies, and the list will be cut down to 30 athletes midseason.
Stinson is a two-time all-Big 12 selection who led Iowa State in scoring last season with 17.2 points per game.
He ranked second and fifth in the Big 12, respectively, in steals (2.3 steals per game) and assists (4.5 assists per game). He became the third-fastest Cyclone to reach 1,000 points, doing so in just 60 games.
Last season, Stinson helped lead the Cyclones to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where they were defeated by eventual national champion North Carolina.
Former Cyclones who have made the All-American list at the end of the season include Fred Hoiberg in 1995, Marcus Fizer in 2000 and Jamaal Tinsley in 2001.
