A man who stabbed a bar employee in Campustown last winter has pled guilty and faces more than a decade behind bars.

Stanley Bell Lockman, 23, of Ames, pled guilty Monday to three of the nine charges brought against him.

On Dec. 31, 2004 Lockman was apprehended after an altercation with Ames Police and Sips’ employees. Tony Shepherd, former manager of Sips, 124 Welch Ave., was treated for stab wounds in the leg and buttocks, and another employee was treated for a laceration. Officers responding to the call were threatened with a knife.

Ames Police originally responded around 1:05 a.m. to a call from Mickey’s Irish Pub, 109 Welch Ave., when employees said they had been threatened by a man with a knife. After arriving at Mickey’s Irish Pub, officers were told the man was walking into Sips, according to police reports.

Lockman was charged with two counts of willful injury, a class C or D felony; one count of going armed with intent to injure, a Class D felony; one count of interference with official acts, a Class D felony; two counts of assaults on peace officers, a Class D felony; assault, an aggravated misdemeanor; and fourth-degree criminal mischief, a serious misdemeanor.

On Monday, Lockman pled guilty to one count of willful injury, a Class D felony; one count of assault on peace officers, a Class D felony; and one count of assault, an aggravated misdemeanor.

He faces up to 12 years in prison and up to $20,000 in fines, plus court costs and victim restitution. Lockman accepted a plea bargain which recommends waiving the incurred fines and serving the prison sentences consecutively and also dismisses the other six charges against him.

Lockman’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Aug. 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the Story County Justice Center in Nevada.
